
Sister Kathleen Natwin, DC
Ascension Health Board of Trustees
Sister Kathleen Natwin, DC, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. She currently serves as Provincial Councilor for the Albany, N.Y., Province of the Daughters of Charity. In this role she is also the Sponsor Liaison for her Province to Ascension Health.
Sister Kathleen became a member of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent dePaul on March 11, 1969.
Her education includes completion in 1976 of a master’s degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management, Cambridge. Sister Kathleen completed courses in gerontology, counseling and community health at Boston University, from 1972 until 1974, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1967 from St. Joseph’s College, Emmitsburg, Md.
Sister Kathleen’s healthcare career began in 1967 as a staff nurse at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, N.J. After initial formation as a Daughter of Charity, she joined Carney Hospital in Boston, where she held the positions of Assistant Head Nurse, Head Nurse, Director of Ambulatory Nursing Service and Associate Director, Ambulatory and Community Services from 1970 until 1978. She was then called to St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, N.Y., where she served initially as an Administrative Assistant and then Vice President, Operations from 1978 to 1984.
In 1984, Sister Kathleen was named chief executive officer at St. Margaret’s Hospital for Women. She provided leadership to this Boston hospital until 1986. From 1986 until 1987, she was the Assistant to the President for Planning for Caritas Christi, the Archdiocese of Boston Health Care System of which St. Margaret’s became a member. Sister Kathleen returned to Carney Hospital in 1987 as Vice President, Mission Services until 1992. She then served as Vice President Mission and Community Outreach at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, N.Y., until 2002.
Sister Kathleen currently serves on the boards of Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville, Penn.; Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Center, Lewiston, N.Y.; and the Catholic Health System of Western New York. She has served on numerous community and professional boards and committees throughout her career.
A recognized leader in the healthcare industry, Sister Kathleen has received many awards including the 2002 Recognition of Community Leadership in Nursing from Zeta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, Honor Society of Nursing, Binghamton, N.Y., the Golden Rose Award in 1993 presented by the Daughters of Charity for outstanding services in social justice; and resolutions of commendation by the Massachusetts State House of Representatives and Senate in 1978 and 1992. She also received governmental commendations during her time in Rochester, N.Y.
